Posted in: Web Technology Hollywood on Demand Apple Amazon DRM Amazon announced Sunday that it plans an international rollout of its DRM-free MP3 music download service in a move that sets up a global scrap with Apple's iTunes service. Is Amazon's service an iTunes killer yet? Not really. But there's no doubt about Amazon's intentions. I've downloaded more than a few DRM-free tunes from Amazon in recent weeks–most because I got a warning about burning more than seven CDs for a 5 year old's birthday party (there was two songs purchased on iTunes). Without that little warning I probably wouldn't have tried Amazon's service.
Indians' Jensen Lewis has own local rooting section
It's just storybook," said Lewis, during a visit with the Indians press caravan to Walnut Creek on Tuesday. "It's something I always dreamed of as a little kid, to play for the team I grew up with. "Not too many people get to experience that. I'm really fortunate. I spent a lot of my childhood in Medina; I have the Indians' and Browns' blood in me." Both sets of Lewis' grandparents still live in Medina County. Mike and Linda Lewis reside in Lodi, while Bernie and Lois Dick live in nearby Medina. That's where Jensen lived until his parents, Michael and Marianne Lewis, moved to Cincinnati when he was in grade school. That didn't stop Lewis from forgetting about the Tribe, though. "Oh yeah, I was still an Indians fan," said Lewis, who wound up starring for Cincinnati Anderson High School before landing a scholarship to Vanderbilt and eventually being drafted by the Indians 102nd overall in the 2005 draft.
Recession puts Florida housing market in a death grip
FORT MYERS, Fla. – Here, people don't ask whether we are headed for a recession. They know a recession is here. For those who live here, the questions narrow down to two. How much worse will it get? How long will it last? For some residents, everything hangs in the balance. And I mean everything. A doctor friend once told me of an eerie feeling he got. Tending a dying patient, he'd look out the hospital room window for a moment. Outside, life went on without a pause. The automobile traffic never stopped; people were still in a hurry. I feel the same way as I drive down U.S. 41, which connects Cape Coral, Fort Myers, Bonita Springs and Naples. The roads are still busy.
