Any outside chance here?

The Sabres and Penguins in the great outdoors, 1 p.m., rain or shine. Personally, I'm hoping for a huge blast of L.E.S. (that's Lake Effect Snow), because, recalling the days of my youth, shoveling in skates to clear a "patch" was almost as much fun as the hockey that followed it.

Be the weather good or bad, I am sure Tuesday's event will be a resounding success. Ralph Wilson Stadium, with a seating capacity of 74,000, sold out faster than a French Connection breakaway, much to the chagrin of thousands of Pittsburgh fans who were eager to make the 200-mile drive north. Sabres fans beat them to the box office, and when The Ralph parking lots open at 8 a.m. Tuesday, they will be packed with all manner of tailgating accoutrements, and an awe-inspiring display of Sabres memorabilia, especially those tiny flags that the locals clip to their rear car windows like so much laundry hanging on the backyard clothesline.

Guwahati, January 2

The missing woman Chandramma had gone out with Mallika but did not return back to her house.

When Chandrammas daughter reported the matter to the police, Mallika consumed some powder feigning a suicide attempt and had to be admitted to a hospital. The police did not question her regarding the matter again and simply registered a missing complaint about Chandramma.

It has also come to light that Mallika was arrested in 2001 on charges of house theft and also underwent punishment for five months for the same. She was handed over to the police when family members of a woman got suspicious when she requested her intended victim to wear gold jewellary for a mandal pooja.

Mallika had then admitted that she wanted to commit a theft but did not let out her intentions of murder. The police feel in the light of both incidents there may be other cases which are still to come to light.

Telstra claims pricing victory

TELSTRA has claimed victory in a long running legal action against the competition watchdog after the Federal Court today quashed a competition notice relating to price increases made on two Telstra telephone products.

Telstra (tls.ASX:Quote,News) said the decision by the court showed the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission's (ACCC) powers should be reduced. "As we said in April, the ACCC's powers should be overhauled given the finding of the court that the ACCC had not treated Telstra fairly,'' Telstra general counsel Will Irving said in a statement, "The ACCC's competition notice exposed Telstra to potential fines of up to $3 million a day, as well as third-party litigation of precisely the type we saw from Optus.'' Long-running caseThe case began in early 2006, when the ACCC issued a competition notice against Telstra after it had raised the prices on two of its telephone products in December 2005.
