| Indonesia's former president Soeharto dies
Indonesia's former dictator Soeharto, a five star general and mystic who ruled the world's most populous Muslim nation for 32 often tumultuous years, has died in a Jakarta hospital. He was 86. "Our former president HM Soeharto has passed away around 13:10 (1710 AEDT)," Dicky Sondani, the sub-district police chief, told reporters at the hospital. He declined to elaborate, including on the cause of death. Soeharto's condition had deteriorated overnight prompting his six children to gather at his bedside in the Jakarta hospital, one of his close aides said. His doctors said earlier today that Soeharto had suffered multiple organ failure overnight and had been resuscitated, although he was still unconscious. "Father has returned to God,'' Soeharto's eldest daughter, Siti Hariyanti 'Tutut' Rukmana, told reporters breaking down in tears.

Glendale Unveiled for XLII: Have a Bite of Desert
You would think an area that touts itself as the Valley of the Sun, with 320 days of sunshine, would be used to heat. Well, it's about to get a lot hotter. Never has the sun shone so brightly here as it will for Super Bowl XLII on Feb. 3. Sure, Tempe hosted Super Bowl XXX in 1996, but 12 years later the Phoenix area has grown by more than a million people, added some 100 miles of highways and is building light rail transit. Meanwhile, Sky Harbor Airport has constructed an additional runway and control tower and now is one of the 10 busiest airports in the nation. And that's to say nothing of Glendale's year-and-a-half-old University of Phoenix Stadium, with its retractable roof and rollout grass field. Indeed, the site of Super Bowl XLII was recently voted the best NFL stadium by Sports Business Journal.
